Swansea striker Fernando Llorente could miss the start of the Premier League season after breaking his arm while cycling back in his homeland Italy.
The 32-year old was the leading goalscorer for Swans last season and will be an important player going into the next season. However, his injury means he could easily miss out up to six weeks to recover completely.
The loss of striker for the start of the season meant Swansea manager will need to consider new options or sell the Italian striker before the Premier League begins. The club released a statement on the injury which dented the player during his family holiday.
A statement from the club said: “The 32-year-old suffered the accident while cycling on a family holiday, and despite it not being a serious break that requires an operation, it does mean the club will have to tailor his pre-season training accordingly.
“The club remain optimistic that he will be available for selection for the first game of the Premier League season against Southampton on Saturday, August 12.”
Swansea are hopeful that he could be available for selection for their first game which will be against Southampton. He remains a key player for the club next season as Swansea continues to build on their success.
Llorente had drawn interest from interest from Chelsea in January and was also attracted attention from Southampton but Swans are believed to keep hold of the player despite his latest setback.
The Italian scored 15 goals in 35 appearances for the Paul Clement’s side which made him one of the most sought after strikers in the league right now. Meanwhile, Swansea are keen to strengthen their side for the upcoming season.
They have signed Tammy Abraham on loan from Chelsea to bolster their attack and are looking to make more additions as transfer window will officially open tomorrow.
Swansea are also keen to keep their star midfielder Gylfi Sigurdsson in their squad for the next season despite increasing interest from Premier League rivals Everton.
Everton had lodged a £30million bid which was rejected by Swans earlier but the Toffees are expected to come up with another much improved bid in the coming days.
