Australian Captain Michael Clarke praised Sri Lanka’s star batsman Kumar Sangakkara as one of the greatest ever ahead of their crucial clash against Sri Lanka on sunday.
He also said that he rates Sangakkara and South Africa’s legendary all-rounder Jacques Kallis as the two finest players he ever played with. Sangakkara might be playing his last ODI against Australia as the veteran player has already announced he will retire from ODIs after 2015 world cup along side his fellow team-mate Mahela Jayawardene.
Both the players are ranked among the greatest players ever to play the game and are respected for their excellent service to Sri Lankan cricket over the years.
“He’s certainly as good as any player I’ve played against. He’s a wonderful batsman. His statistics show that in both Test and one-day cricket. He’s an absolute gentleman.
“Kumar and Jacques Kallis are two guys I’ve looked up to and think if they played for different countries, they could quite easily be regarded as the best ever,” Clarke siad of Sri Lankan legend.
Kumar Sangakkara has amassed a whopping 13961 runs in 401 ODIs and can break 14000 run barrier in the game against Australia if possible which makes him only second player in the history of the game to score 14000 ODI runs with the first being Sachin Tendulkar.
