The Irish captain, William Porterfield believes of the fact that there would be no let-up from India when Ireland will go in quest of another win over a test nation at this World Cup.
As a matter of fact, the defending champions, India has already qualified for the quarter finals. Also, after the thrilling win of Ireland over Zimbabwe last evening left them in competition with other sides for a spot in the quarter finals from Pool B.
Ireland started the tournament with a win over West Indies. They face India in their next game on Tuesday at Hamilton.
Porterfield also said that he doesn’t think that India’s guard will ever be down.
He added that India is a squad of 15, so whatever they decide to do, they decide to do. He also mentioned that it’s a long tournament and India won’t be going to lose any momentum from their respective point of view.
Porterfield said that India’s decisions are upto them. Ireland will surely compete against India and would like to snatch a victory over the defending champions.
Ireland has been known for causing upsets in the World Cup. They did manage to beat Pakistan back in 2007. Also, they had beaten England comprehensively in 2011 World Cup. And, right in their first game in this World Cup, they have beaten West Indies.
They would try their level best to cease yet another victory as it will brighten their hopes for qualifying for the quarter finals.
When Porterfield was asked about their hopes for qualifying for the quarter finals, he said that they are hopeful for that. But at the moment, they would like to focus on each game rather and perform their best on each game.
Ireland lately defeated Zimbabwe in a nail biting finish of late. The Irish men scored a total of 331 runs by batting first in that match. In reply, Zimbabwe almost won the match but a brilliant final over gave Ireland the win by 5 runs to stay in competition for the quarter final spot.
