The news of Rahul Johri going to Windies to table a meeting with Virat Kohli and the members of team India came yesterday (July 5), which emerged as the biggest surprise as he was there with team India during Champions Trophy and the members would have given their consent regarding the next coach of Indian cricket team. But BCCI CEO has again followed Indian cricket team and has landed in the camp to know the consent of players and captain regarding the appointment of new Head Coach for the side. Though BCCI was not at all amused with the move of CEO,
“I have no idea why John is headed to West Indies for a meeting with the captain. Does that mean that Kohli is not comfortable discussing the team’s take on the next India coach with Sridhar or Malhotra? Also, there is always something call teleconferencing. If the decision to appoint BCCI officials as managers are considered as a way of pleasing members of state associations, doesn’t the decision to send Johri all the way also raise eyebrows? Strange how everything the COA decides is fine,” a BCCI official told Cricketnext.
Of course, captain and players should have a say in the selection of new Head Coach but with this move, the trust issues have started coming out as the official said. (Read Here: Rahul Johri To Travel Windies To Meet Indian Team)
The Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC) of BCCI will announce the successor of Anil Kumble before the start of the Sri Lanka series. The interview process for the race to the throne will start from July 10 when the three-member committee will start interviewing the aspirants for the job.
Ravi Shastri, Virender Sehwag, LalChand Rajput, Dodda Ganesh, Richard Pybus, Tom Moody and Phil Simmons are the ones who have applied for it. Shastri and Sehwag are the two favourites for the job due to their relation with skipper Virat Kohli but nothing can be confirmed yet as last year too, there was a surprise when Anil Kumble was given the job to teach Indian team. Though his relationship with Indian team lasted just one year and as soon as his contract expired, he left the job, despite been given an extension by BCCI for Windies series. Kumble’s way of exit will surely give the new coach a bit of indication that he has to work as per the team’s way or else the team stands united to welcome a new face in the backroom staff.
