Tributes have been pouring in from all corner for Mahendra Singh Dhoni on his 36th birthday, so how can one expect Virender Sehwag to not wish his ex-India teammate. The former India opener, who has carved his own niche on the social media with his witty one-liners and hilarious birthday wishes, once again came up with a brilliant tweet for the birthday boy.
The former India skipper, who is currently in West Indies for the limited-overs series, turned 36 on Friday (July 7). Dhoni began his career in the worst possible manner, getting run-out for a duck but soon became a crowd favourite after slamming 148 against Pakistan in only his fifth One-Day International. There was no looking back since then as he established himself as one of India’s premier batsman in ODIs. The most memorable moment of his early part of the career came in 2007 when he led a bunch of youngsters to the World T20 title in South Africa. He was soon given the captaincy in all the format and the rest is all history. Till date, he is the only skipper to have won all the ICC events after leading India to World Cup glory in 2011 followed by the Champions Trophy title in 2013. He also led the Indian team to the pinnacle of Test cricket in 2009 in addition to winning several historic overseas series.
Dhoni, who stepped down as the limited-overs skipper earlier this year, is in the twilight of his career and is struggling to get going with the bat on a consistent basis but there is absolutely no denying the fact that the fans want to see him donning the Indian jersey as long as possible and Sehwag is no different.
Wishing Dhoni on his birthday, the legendary batsman tweeted:“To a man who has given Indian fans innumerable moments of joy, #HappyBirthdayMSD. May the helicopter continue to fly and land in our hearts.”
