Former Proteas all-rounder Robin Peterson who is currently a consultant of the South African U-19 national team is confident that the Men in Green will notch up their 2nd victory in succession against the Caribbean in the 2nd Youth ODI scheduled to be played at Pietermaritzburg on Wednesday.

Peterson said his team has prepared very well and will be eager to build on their impressive five-wicket victory in the 1st encounter. Despite their dominating performance, the Proteas expects a stern test from the World Cup holders but Peterson remained confident of his team’s chances.

“I think the boys have put in a magnificent effort in terms of their preparation. The guys are hungry to succeed and do well. The energy at training and the willingness to learn as well as the keenness to improve on the first ODI victory, is very impressive,” Peterson was quoted as saying by the SA Cricket MAG.COM.

“All bodes well going forward. I’m expecting a tight encounter in this game. But the guys have prepared well and they’re ticking all the boxes, so preparations have been perfect. Hopefully, they’ll be able to keep calm heads under pressure and get one over the Windies again,” Peterson further added.

Pietermaritzburg will host the next three matches while the final encounter will move to Kingsmead, Durban. Peterson broke onto the scene with his left-arm orthodox in the early 2000’s which is a rarity in South Africa and proved to be an important member of the ODI team with his all-round abilities.

During his early stages, he was more of a slow bowler who purely relied on the flight but, as his career progressed he included some more varieties in his repertoire.

Peterson was a part of the South African team in the 2011 World Cup and finished the tournament as their leading wicket-taker. He also played a pivotal role in helping the Proteas outplaying the eventual champions India in the group stage.

Peterson hung up his boots in the year 2014 and played his final match of each of the three formats against Australia. He went on to play domestic cricket for a couple of years more and finally called it a day in 2016.
