The Indian skipper Mithali Raj vaulted in the record books as she became the first ever batsmen to cross the 6000 run mark, also becoming the highest run-scorer in Women’s cricket. She was the pick of the batsman as she played an innings of 69 on a tough pitch, against the defending champions. Though Raj took her time in the middle but the conditions were very much opposed to the batsmen and also the outfield was not assisting the speed of the ball.
The Indian opener Poonam Raut too shone with the bat as the Indian opener slammed a century. She played an innings of 106 in 136 deliveries, a knock which saw Indian team in a total of 226 on the board.
Now the onus is on the bowlers as the conditions are against batsmen and it’s an opportunity for Indian bowlers to defend the target and book a seat in the semi-finals whereas if the opposite happens, then India has to win the next game so as make an entry n knockouts.
Twitter was in all praise for Mithali Raj and Punam Raut for their superlative innings. Here are some best of the tweets –
