India thrashed Thailand 5-0 in the second semi finals of World Hockey League Round 2 at the Major Dhayan Chand Stadium at New Delhi n Saturady night. It was a dominating performance by the Indian girls as they played some attacking hockey throughout the game. Thus they ensure entry for the next round to qualify for Rio Olympics

In the first quarter India began off to a positive start. They attacked but missed a lot of chances to score the goal. India was awarded a penalty stroke in 10.44 minutes and Jaspreet Kaur converted the stroke into a goal to give India 1-0 lead. In 11.47 minutes Amandeep Singh missed a chance of scoring an open goal. In 13.25 minutes India earned its first penalty corner which was hit wide. At the end of first quarter it was 1-0 in favor of India.

The second quarter saw India attacking and getting the second penalty corner in the first 30 seconds. Sunita Lakra converted the penalty corner into a goal to give India 2-0 lead. In 2.37 minutes India earned second penalty corner of quarter but missed a chance. In 6.07 minutes India took an unassailable lead of 3-0 when Poonam Rani scored the field goal. India earned third penalty corner in 9.28 minutes but was well saved by Thailand goalkeeper. Soon after India earned fourth penalty corner in 13.46 minutes but that too was missed. At the end of second quarter it was 3-0 in favor of India.

In the third quarter Thailand entered the circle of India for the first time in 4.58 and shot at the goal but was well saved by the Indian goalkeeper.  In 7.45 minutes India earned fifth penalty corner but was hit well wide. In 9.20 minutes Amandeep Sing passed the ball to Rani Rampal who scored the goal to give India 4-0 lead. Between 10.42 and 11.15 minutes India made 3 attempts on opponent’s goal but was well saved by Thailand goalkeeper with great efforts. In 12.35 India made attempt on goal but missed another chance. In 13.20 minutes Thailand made the 2nd attack on Indian goal but could not make use of the chance. At the end of 3rd quarter it was 4-0.

In the 4th quarter India got an early penalty corner in first 40 seconds of the quarter that was well saved by the Thailand goalkeeper. India missed another chance in 3.15 minute to convert another chance into a goal. In 6.58 minutes India earned 8th penalty corner, well hit but Thailand captain saved it magnificently by tossing it over the goal post. In 7.30 minutes India earned another 9th corner but was well saved by the Thai goalkeeper. In 8.32 minutes India scored the 5th goal when Amandeep scored a field goal. In 14.03 India missed another chance of scoring goals.

The main worry for the Indians is their penalty corner conversation scoring 1 out of 9. India will face Poland in the finals tomorrow.   Both of them are assured position for next round.
