In what might come as a shock to everyone, India’s 2007 World T20 hero Joginder Sharma’s father Om Prakash Sharma was stabbed and robbed near his shop in Rohtak.

The former medium pacer who bowled the infamous final over to Misbah-ul-Haq in the inaugural edition of the T20 World Cup lodged a complaint stating the incident.

In his complaint, Joginder said,

“They first tried to take cash from my pockets. But when I tried to stop them, one of the boys took out a knife and tried to stab me in my stomach. I stopped him by holding the knife in my hands. They then entered my shop and took all the cash from the drawer. They took nearly Rs 7,000,”

The incident occurred on Saturday when Om Prakash was closing his shop. The 68-year-old was apparently attacked by two youngsters in their early 20’s with a knife and it was also reported that the accused had bought cold drinks and cigarettes before coming back to attack the senior Sharma.

Om Prakash called his other son Deepak for help when the two attackers locked the door from outside.

“He suffered knife injuries in his hands when he tried to stopped them from stabbing him in the stomach. He has been discharged now,” Deepak was quoted by the Hindustan Times.

Now coming to Joginder Sharma, who wouldn’t remember this name? The man who bowled the most crucial over in the history of Indian cricket. India had scored a modest 157 in their allotted 20 overs in the final courtesy a sublime innings from Gautam Gambhir. Pakistan was jolted with early wickets and kept on losing their plot.

They were reduced to 100 odd for 7 when Misbah-ul-Haq upped the ante and brought Pakistan into the match. The right-hander smashed Harbhajan Singh for 3 sixes in the 17th over which shifted the balance some what. With 13 required off the final over Dhoni went with Joginder ahead of Bhajji who had leaked runs in the previous over.

He was nervous to start off and conceded a wide and a six to push India to a corner. Pakistan was just a hit away to lift the World Cup when a lapse in concentration from Misbah Ul Haq cost him and his team dearly as Pakistan eventually fell short by a mere 5 runs.
