On paper and the recent form of the two sides might indicate that the upcoming Test series between India and Sri Lanka could be a one sided affair, in India’s favour.

It was right here in Sri Lanka a couple of years ago, when skipper Virat Kohli brought up his first Test victory as captain and eventually went on to lead the side to an inspiring series victory. After being 0-1 down in Galle, India roared back in the next couple of games to take the series 2-1, and win a series in Sri Lanka for the first time in 22 years.

A major reason behind India’s victory in that series was young opener KL Rahul. Having played just two Tests in the lead up to that series, the Karnataka opener was indeed raw, but full of talent. Post missing out in Galle with a couple of low scores, Rahul had to come good at Colombo at all costs.

On a deck that was profusely testing for the batsmen early on, India was put in and lost the first two wickets with barely 10 on board. Rahul was joined by his captain, Virat Kohli and another loss would have put India on the complete retreat.

Rahul however, not getting bogged down by the testing circumstances, took the opportunity as his baptism under fire. The next few hours would go on to dictate his sheer class and elegance, being pronounced on the world stage in trying conditions.

Rahul along with Kohli not just resurrected the Indian innings, but also piled up an impressive century. Thanks to his century, which was full of eye pleasing strokes and drives, India got to a decent position, later allowing the bowlers to catch up.

In all, Rahul’s knock of 108 included 13 boundaries and a huge six and was a treat to the eyes. Eventually, India went on to win the game and Rahul was duly named the Man of the Match. With India taking on Sri Lanka in a few days, the focus will once again be on Rahul. Below, is a video of that superlative knock from the Karnataka youngster.
