India Women’s team led by the inspiring Mithali Raj will be taking on their English counterparts in the finals ICC Women’s World Cup at Lord’s today. The historic game has created a huge amount of buzz among cricket followers.
This will be India’s second appearance in the finals after having played in the summit clash against Australia. After the maiden trip to the final leg of the multi-nation tournament, which also came under the leadership of Mithali Raj, it took India two more editions to make themselves eligible of standing on the verge of winning the trophy.
Ironically, the road to the final was paved by defending champions Australia who surrendered meekly in the semi-finals to the challenge put forward by India.
With the match ready to commence in a matter of few hours, the excitement is through the roofs. Fans, celebs, current and former cricketer, all have been tweeting in support of the ladies wishing their all the luck to win the coveted trophy.
The preparations are in full swing. The ladies had a very fruitful net session which featured age group boys bowling at them including Sachin Tendulkar’s son Arjun Tendulkar. Later, the team looked in a completely relaxed mood and was seen having laughs together.
The signs of a victory in the making are all positive at the moment. Let’s hope Team India creates a golden memory today and finishes the evening with celebrations in the iconic balcony of the Lord’s, the very same place where the seeds of a formidable future of Indian Men’s cricket were sown by Kapil’s Devils in 1983, with the World Cup proudly held high by Mithali Raj.
