A jam-packed Lord’s was treated to a quality brand of cricket from Indian team as Mithali Raj & Co., despite losing the toss on a good batting pitch, produced a bowling master-class to restrict hosts England to 228 for 7. Senior pacer Jhulan Goswami was the star of the show, picking up 3 for just 23 in her 10 overs.

Heather Knight’s decision to bat first proved right to a certain extent when Laurent Winfield and Tammy Beaumont added 47 runs for the first wicket. The England openers also rode their luck as Lauren was saved by DRS while Beaumont was dropped behind the stumps.
Successful review! Winfield is given out lbw to Goswami but uses DRS and she's right! England 43/0 #ENGvIND #WWC17 pic.twitter.com/T2Fc2bffRW

However, Mithali Raj’s ladies soon made inroads in the match by taking three quick wickets to reduce the hosts from 47 for 0 to 63 for 3.

Winfield was the first to depart when she was bowled by Rajeshwari Gayakwad for 24. 13 runs later, Poonam Yadav struck to remove Beaumont before the Indian spinner dismissed Knight for a duck to bring England under pressure. An 83-run stand between Sarah Taylor and Natalie Sciver steadied the ship and had put England in command of the proceedings but just when it looked like the duo would accelerate the run-rate Jhulan Goswami dismissed Taylor (45) and Fran Wilson (0) on consecutive deliveries to leave England reeling at 146 for 5 in the 33rd over.
Two wickets in two balls for Jhulan Goswami! Will we see a #WWC17 ? trick? pic.twitter.com/DZGomBgYfb

India’s veteran pacer was not done yet as she struck once again to dismiss another set batswoman- Natalie Sciver (51), shortly after the English batswoman crossed the fifty-run mark. The mini-collapse undid the good work done by Taylor and Sciver as the hosts found themselves reduced to 164 for 6 from 146 for 3.
WICKET! This is a big one, and Sciver has gone for 51! Trapped lbw by Goswami and she's got her third! England 164/6 #ENGvIND #WWC17 pic.twitter.com/8knwPKHYzx

Katherine Brunt and Jenny Gunn then stopped the rot for a while by adding 32 runs for the seventh wicket before a direct hit from Deepti Sharma sent back the latter for 34.
Ha ha ha… direct hits are always welcomed, Deepti 🙂 #IndvsEng #WWC17Final

Gunn (25), on the other hand, was struggling to time her shots initially but managed to keep the scoreboard ticking with singles and doubles. Laura Marsh also played a handy knock of 14 runs as England finished on 228.
Here is how Twitter reacted to England’s innings:
What an incredible spell by Jhulan! Proud of your effort! Plenty of cricket to be played. Keep pushing hard… #IndvsEng #WWC17Final
