Narendra Modi Pays Respect To Indian Women Cricketers After World Cup Final Loss 1

Indian Prime minister Narendra Modi has expressed his utmost respect for the Indian women cricket team after their loss to England in World Cup final.

After being asked to chase a target of 229, India’s lower order collapse saw the women in Blue fell 9 runs short. Despite the disappointment at the end of the tournament, the team showed incredible desire to win games when competing against top sides in Women cricket.

Having set the target to reach the semifinals, the Indian team had managed to finish third in the league table and also beat the defending champions Australia. Good performances by Punam Raut, Harmanpreet Kaur and Veda Krishnamurthy has put in a commendable position at 191/3 but the late collapse meant they were all out for 219.

Anya Shrubsole made the mockery of India’s lower order as she ended up picking 6/46 in the final. The result meant fell in the final hurdle for the second time after their loss in 2005 World Cup.

But the wishes have poured in for the team after their all round performance in the tournament. Prime Minister Narendra Modi is one of the first celebrities to wish the team on the successful campaign.

He said: “Our women cricketers gave their best today. They have shown remarkable tenacity & skill through the World Cup. Proud of the team”
