With due reason of the recent natural catastrophe caused due to the Cyclone Pam which was reportedly conceived to ravage the island nation of Vanuatu, the International Cricket Council (ICC) on this Thursday has said that it will be offering financial support to the island inhibitors for the gruesome cause through their charity partner UNICEF (The United Nations International Children Education Fund) at the next two World Cup quarter final matches.

The next two of the last eight matches will be played between the host nation Australia and Pakistan at the Adelaide Oval stadium in Australia and the co-host nation New Zealand versus West Indies at the Wellington Regional Stadium in New Zealand.

The ICC alongside with the co-hosts Cricket Australia (CA) and New Zealand Cricket (NZC) will be jointly contributing 200,000 Dollars (2 million US dollars) to support UNICEF’s purpose in its aid and their recovery programmes and procedures in those affected region of Vanuatu.

In addition, ICC will be providing several promotional opportunities through advertising at these marquee fixtures as a platform to launch an appeal to the international community to lend its support to the Pacific island.

It is difficult not to be affected by the horrific images which have emanated from Vanuatu in the recent days, said ICC chief executive David Richardson.

Having recently supported the area as part of ICC’s development programme in the eastern Asia Pacific region through significant investment in the island’s cricket facilities which have been severely damaged, the ICC has taken these steps to give back to the game and support the people in the region at this challenging time.

The ICC is appealing to the international community to donate whatever they can in order to help the people of Vanuatu get back on their feet. Any donation over the coming days and weeks from anybody and any organizations, however large or small the amount of donation, would be gratefully received.
