Russell Adams Ends IPL Stint For South Africa's Global T20 1

Russell Adams, the veteran administrator, has ended his nine-year stint with the Indian Premier League to take up the position of tournament director for South Africa’s upcoming T20 Global League.

The South Africa-born administrator served as the vice-president of the commercial, operations and cricket academy for the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB). Prior to that, he worked as a consultant to the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR).

Adams was also worked as the logistics manager at the 2003 Cricket World Cup in South Africa and had spent over 20 years on the ground as a club cricketer, coach, secretary and manager at the Western Province Cricket Association, Cape Town.

Cricket South Africa (CSA), on Monday (July 24), announced the appointment. CSA Chief Executive Haroon Lorgat welcomed Adams’ appointment.

“His experience for the last ten years with the IPL and his qualifications and passion for the game makes him an ideal person for the job. We have every confidence in Russell and we are thrilled to have him as part of the T20 Global League senior team,” Lorgat said.

Adams also expressed his delight over the appointment and said he was looking forward to using his experience in making the upcoming league a world-class T20 competition.

“I’m looking forward to this new chapter in my career and to be given the opportunity to be part of the exciting T20 Global League,” said Adams.

“Although I’ve been working abroad for close to a decade now, I’ve always wanted to come back to South Africa and contribute positively to the sports and cricket environment in our wonderful country. The T20 Global League is a unique opportunity for me to do just that and use my experience to further enhance and build a world-class T20 competition,” added Adams.

The eight-team tournament, meanwhile, will kick start in November this year. The name of the eight teams were already unveiled in a glittering ceremony in London last month.
