In what came as a shocking occurrence for a cricket Club in the outskirts of Taunton, West Monkton Club suffered a devastating break-in which more than £1,000 worth property stolen. According to reports in the Gazzete, the break-in is reported to have happened on Wednesday at the West Monkton Cricket Club ground in Bridgewater Road.
The members of the club is now asking the community to be alert following the occurrence which also saw a large quantity of soft drinks and alcohol stolen along with other maintenance equipment. A representative from the club conceded that it was really a big blow.
“Obviously this is devastating to a small club like ours, which is funded purely by our paying members. With the developments being built around us we are looking to become more involved in the local community and have already this year gained a number of new members.
“It may appear like a petty crime to some but incidents like this can really affect the operations of a cricket club,” the spokesman from the club said. As per reports two generators, a lawn mower, a lead blower and 10 litres of petrol was stolen. The club has now asked the public of the community to report that they might know to the nearest police station.
The spokesman from the club further said,
“There’s a lot of people that put in a lot of hard work at the club and incidents like this set us back both physically and mentally as all the work that has been put in can be taken away like this. We’re a club funded purely by our members and sponsors so the equipment and product were stolen has a huge effect on our operation. By no means are we a big club so a hit like this can affect us more than most.
“While we’re reviewing our security measures we can only ask that the local community remains vigilant to this sort of crime and report anything suspicious to the police,” he added.
