World number two, Saina Nehwal beat Riya Mukhjree in the 1st round with ease at the Yonex Indian Open Super Series at the Siri Fort Complex at New Delhi just few moments ago. It was a great experience for Riya Mukhrjee who got to play against a top player.
In the first game, Saina got the first point that was equaled by Riya. Both the players were equal at 3-3 again. At this point, a brilliant rally indicated the potential of Riya though finally Saina won the point and lead 4-3. After that, Saina played comfortably and won successive points after that to reach 11-3. At the interval, it was 11-3 in favor of Saina.
After the interval, Saina continued her domination. However there was another brilliant rally which was won again by Saina as she took a 12-3 lead. Riya took two points at the end; Saina won the set 21-5.
In the second game, Saina got the first point because of a review and continued to dominate and raced to 6-2 lead. At 6-2 a strong rally took place that was won by Saina taking her to a 7-2 lead. Riya gave a fight back to earn four points and the score at the interval it was 11-6 in favor of Saina.
Again there was some good play where Riya won some points making it 16-10 in favor of Saina. Eventually Saina won the game 21-13 and the match in straight games.
Saina won the match 21-5, 21-13 and progresses to the next round.
Riya Mukhrjee got 18 points in 2 games which showed her potential and caliber. She is potentially a very good player for the future who needs to have more exposure with such tournaments playing against top players and work on her backhand, agility, speed and stamina to raise her level to that of the best out there.
