2015-16 season will go down as the season where the top teams from the Premier League would look to outdo each others in terms of signing quality central defenders. One such target is Real Madrid’s Raphael Varane.
The Frenchman is regarded to be one of the finest young defenders in the game at the moment and is tipped for greatness in future, Manchester United and Chelsea have circled for Varane’s signature in recent times.
United and Chelsea were given a major boos last night when Varane spoke openly about the lack of playing time he has had at Real Madrid. The French starlet has started only 14 games for the Spanish side this season, which is way less than his playing time from last season.
Varane is currently on International duty for France where he spoke to La Voix du Nord about how playing for his national side has helped him to retain his form this season.
Varane said: “I’ve played less this term with Madrid but more regularly with France, which has helped me not to lose rhythm.”
Varane highlighted how he and Real Madrid are trying to battle out of a sticky spell at the club which saw them lose to Barcelona in the El Classico and hand over the initiative to the Catalan side in race to to the La Liga crown.
Varana looked less than pleased while speaking to La Voix du Nord about the lack of his time on the pitch which might open the door for United and Chelsea to convince the young defender to make his move to the Premier League.
United do need a quality defender and every central defender on teh move is their target while Chelsea and Jose Mourinho are concerned about the declining form of Gary Cahill this season and given Mourinho’s firsthand experience of working with Varane, might tempt the Blues to make a bid for the Frenchman.
Varane is valued in between £20-25 million by Real Madrid and has no release clause attached to his contract, which would make it easier for the Premier League sides to go all out for him, if Varane decides to leave Real Madrid.
