Sri Lanka vs India 2017: Suranga Lakmal Ruled Out Of Second Test 1

Sri Lanka pacer Suranga Lakmal will miss the second Test of the three-Test match series against India, a report in Cricbuzz suggests. It has been learned that the right-handed bowler is suffering an injury but the kind of injury he has suffered is still unknown. Lakmal though wasn’t included in the playing XI for the first Test match in Galle as the captain went with Nuwan Pradeep and gave a chance to young Lahiru Kumara, who grabbed four wickets in the game.

Lakmal is the second player who has been ruled out due to an injury as it has been confirmed that Asela Gunaratna will miss the complete series. The right-handed batsman suffered a blow to his thumb after he dropped a catch of Shikhar Dhawan when he was batting on 31* in the first innings. The blow resulted in a fractured thumb, which has ruled him out for more than a month. It is a big blow for the Lankan team, keeping in mind the way he performed in the Test against Zimbabwe where he played a match winning innings of 80*.

Before the start of the second Test, there is a good news for the hosts as well. Dinesh Chandimal has joined the team. He is set to perform the duties of the captain, taking over the charge from Rangana Herath. His addition to the team will not just boost the morale of the team but will also add depth to the batting line-up of Sri Lanka.

Sri Lankan selectors are yet to announce the squad for the rest of the two games. The second Test of the series will start from August 3 and will be played in Colombo.
