Sir Alex Ferguson might be long gone from the duties of guiding Manchester United towards success but he continues to aid United in becoming the best football club in the world.

From the recent reports from Germany it has been believed that Borussia Dortmund superstar Mats Hummels had made a promise to Sir Alex Ferguson back in 2013 that if ever he was to move abroad, the only team he would play for would Manchester United.

Sir Alex Ferguson along with his then #1 man Mike Phelan were in attendance to see the DFB Pokal final between Dortmund and Bayern Munich which Dortmund ended up winning 4-1. Sir Alex was in Germany with a view of signing the trio of Shinji Kagawa, Robert Lewandowski and Mats Hummels.

The Scot could only sign Kagawa that season but more crucially for United’s current fate he made sure that Hummels made him a promise of joining United in future.

The deal looks likely to move ahead as Hummels has recently come out and admitted that ultimately he would like to move to a different country and league, which would improve him personally, and professionally. Hummels is widely tipped to end his 7-year long association with Dortmund at the end of current season.

Despite all the several team being linked with Hummels, Man Unite dare quietly confident of landing the £35 million rated defender as he has already made a promise to Sir Alex Ferguson of joining United when he leaves Bundesliga.

Sir Alex Ferguson has indeed helped Louis Van Gaal in a massive way as United have been after Hummels for last 2 seasons now and now it seems like they have finally got their man. Hummels will add the much needed stability to an unsure looking United defense.
