Saina Nehwal beat Chinese Sun Yu in a grueling three setter 21-11,18-21 and 21-17 in the quarter finals of the Malaysian Open Super Series just few moments ago. It was a mouthwatering match as both of the players played some brilliant badminton and the deserving winner came out.
In the first game Saina started off well taking the first point but Sun Yu cameback in the match to take 4-3 lead. After that Saina took 8 successive points for which Sun Yu had no answers to it. At the interval it was 11-4 in favor of Saina. After the interval both of them took alternate points till 17-10. Saina took three successive points to make it 20-10. Saina won the first set 21-11.
The second set began well for the Chinese. Sun Yu from the start took an unassailable lead of 6-1. Both of them took alternate points till 10-6. At the interval Sun Yu took a 11-6 lead. After the interval both of them took again alternate points till 14-9 in favor of Chinese. After that Saina took 6 successive points to make 14-14. Saina Nehwal made too many mistakes and the Chinese took advantage of it. Sun Yu won the second set 21-18.
The third set started well for Saina taking a commanding 5-1 lead. Sun Yu tried to make a comeback but Saina was playing well. At the interval Saina lead 11-4. After the interval Sun Yu made a great comeback in the game from being 5-11 down and then 9-14 down took 5 successive points to make it 14-14. Both of them played some excellent badminton to again equal the score at 17-17. Sun Yu committed a lot of mistakes. At 19-17 a wonderful shot by Saina was out but the linesman gave it in the favor of Saina to make 20-17. The last point of match saw a wonderful rally as the point went to Saina and she won the match 21-17.
In the semi finals she will face Olympic champion Li Xiurei which will be an mouthwatering clash.
