Team India’s final practice session ahead of the third Test match was cancelled due to rain in Pallekele.
The Test begins from tomorrow (August 12) and it was the last time when the team was to practice but rain spoilt team India’s session and now they will straightaway go into the contest without match practice.
At present, the visiting side is leading in the series by a margin of 2-0 and the Virat Kohli led side is expected to win the next game and whitewash the hosts, despite the lack of practice.
The rain though has led to selection issue for the skipper, as Axar Patel landed in the camp on Friday and it was a chance for Kohli to have a close look at the bowler but now, a decision over his inclusion will be taken only after looking at the pitch.
Meanwhile, the Indian team for the limited over series against Sri Lanka will be selected on Sunday, August 13. MSK Prasad will chair the meeting from Sri Lanka, whereas, Devang Gandhi, who is in South Africa with the India A side, will join the meeting from there. Sarandeep Singh is in Delhi and the team will be selected via skype.
In all possibility, Virat Kohli is expected to be rested for the series and Rohit Sharma will take over the duties from him. Apart from Kohli, Ravindra Jadeja and Ravichandran Ashwin might be given some time off.
Few players like Manish Pandey, Suresh Raina and Jasprit Bumrah are expected to get their place back in the team, whereas, Amit Mishra might also be recalled as the third spinner for limited over series.
