India has come a long way since making its Test debut way back in 1932 against England. The nation which had to wait for two decades and eight series to register its first series win is currently ruling world cricket.
India was invited into The Imperial Cricket Council in 1926 and played their first Test at the iconic Lord’s. The CK Nayudu-led side had gone on to lose the match by 158 runs. India played three more series before Independence and three after it without tasting series success.
India recorded its first Test victory, in their 24th match, against England at Madras in 1952. Later in the same year, they won their first Test series, which was against Pakistan. So far, India has played 515 Tests, winning 142, losing 158, drawing 214 while one ended as a tie.
Currently, the team under the captaincy of Virat Kohli is the number one Test side in the world and with the whole nation celebrating the 70th Independence Day, we are taking a look at some of India’s finest series wins.
