It could have been a lot worse for Bangladesh star Tamim Iqbal when he fell through a glass dressing room door after reportedly throwing his bat in anger following his dismissal in a practice game.

However, the left-handed batsman avoided any serious injury due to his batting protective gear, with his batting gloves and pads coming to his rescue.

Tamim started the proceedings with the bat on 23 on the second day of Bangladesh’s intra-squad practice match in Chittagong before being run-out after he could add only six runs to his overnight score. Frustrated with the dismissal, he flung his willow which hit the door. Later, when Tamim pushed the door, it shattered and the opening batsman fell through.

“The moment I pushed the door the glass broke entirely,” Tamim told the Daily Star. “I fell to the ground as well and if anyone saw the state of my pads, they would know how dangerous the accident could have been. Thanks to Allah that I got off from such a dangerous situation.

The 28-year-old further assured that the injury was not serious.

“The injury is nothing serious, I am just thankful since the situation could have been bad. The injured area sometimes stretches the skin but it’s nothing serious,” he said.

But the batsman still required stitches. Bangladesh selector Minhajul Abedin stated that the incident was “a bit scary” but said Tamim is expected to play the final warm-up game on August 16.

“We hope that the stitches will be cut within a day or two and we expect him to be fit before the practice match,” Abedin said. “It was a bit scary initially because he is one of our major players and we would not like to lose him before this crucial Test series against Australia.”

Meanwhile, the two-Test series against Australia will begin on August 27 at Dhaka and the hosts would be desperate to have Tamim fit for the tough series.
