He was hit by a bouncer in the first innings of the first unofficial Test against South Africa A on a score of 26* and then walked off the field. He did not come to bat in the second innings, which confirmed the impact of the bouncer. He tried to duck the rising ball but could not avoid it,
“Vijay tried to avoid a bouncer. But he was hit on the right shoulder and couldn’t carry on,” a source said.
However, the Tamil Nadu all-rounder will continue to be the part of the team and will only return after the completion of the series. It is to be noted that he was earlier not the part of the team and was asked to stay on with the squad after Priyank Panchal did not travel to South Africa due to viral fever.
BCCI is not expected to announce any replacement of Vijay, as they already have Krishnappa Gowtham to replace the all-rounder.

Meanwhile, India A lost the first unofficial Test to South Africa A by a huge margin of 235 runs. South Africa A side scored 346 runs in the first innings in reply to which the Karun Nair-led India A was bowled out for a score of 120.
In the third innings of the game, the home side added 220 runs and asked India A to chase down a huge mountain of 447 runs, which the visitors failed to chase and thus lost the first Test.
India A will now look to turn the fortunes in the next game, as despite success in the limited-over cricket, the team has failed to emulate their success in the longest format of the game since Rahul Dravid has taken over as the coach of India A.
