In the batsmen dominated format of Cricket. T20 has been all about runs and big hitting. Score runs, runs and just runs. This is the only one fool proof way of winning in IPL. But how many runs is a safe score is still something that no one can guarantee. With scores of 200 plus being chased in IPL, not total is good enough and the bowling that gets hammered less is the one that wins.
In today’s stat we will take a look at players who have scored most runs in IPL. These are players who anchor the team innings and guide the team through to setting a big total or chasing down one. The players in the list are the ones that the team can always depend on, be it crucial situations or capitalizing on the advantage received, they are always upto it and are the most dependable.

Suresh Raina, the player to play most number of matches in IPL is also the one to top the list of highest run scorers in IPL. He has scored 3581 runs in 125 matches, currently also the only player in IPL to score more than 3500 runs and he sits comfortably on top of the list. Huge percentage of credit for the success of Chennai Super Kings goes to this talented player. He has played many match saving or match making innings in his career for the team led by Dhoni.
On the second list we have Rohit Sharma, he is among the 3 players who have scored 3000 or more runs in IPL. He has 3246 runs to his tally in 122 matches. Captain of Mumbai Indians this season has also been a part of Deccan Chargers earlier.
On the 3rd position is probably the best player of IPL, two time Orange Cap winner Chris Gayle has scored 3065 runs in just 76 matches at an average that is higher than the Top 3 players and now he became the fastest player in IPL to reach 3000 mark. He also holds the record highest individual score in a T20 game for his score of 175*. One thing that Gayle is yet to achieve for RCB is, he is yet to make them win the IPL and will be hoping to do this year.
On number 5 we have the two time IPL winning captain Gautam Gambhir, he is the latest batsmen to enter the 3000 club as he has scored 3058 runs. Gambhir has played a huge role in the success of KKR, both from his captaincy as well as batting and as a result the Knight Riders have won the IPL trophy twice.
On the 5th and 6th position we have two players who have been playing head to head and are almost equal in all their stats. The players are Uthappa and Virat Kohli. Both have played 114 matches and just 2 runs seperates both of them.
In IPL season 8, the player with most runs is Ajinkya Rahane with 430 runs in 10 matches, closely follows David Warner with 382 runs in matches. Who do you think will come out as the highest run scorer in this season of IPL and you think there will be any change in how Top run scorers are placed? Let us know your views in the comments box!
