KPL 2017: Karun Nair to Lead Mysuru Warriors 1

The Indian batsman Karun Nair will lead the Mysuru Warriors team in the upcoming edition of Karnataka Premier League.

He will replace Manish Pandey for the job, who led the team in the last edition of the league. The prime reason for franchise opting for Nair is the international commitments of Pandey because he has made a comeback in the Indian team and is expected to play the full home season. His absence meant that the team needed a new skipper, and Nair was the best option available.

Nair is currently in South Africa, leading India A in the unofficial Test series against the hosts.

This will be a fourth time when Nair will lead a team, as the first opportunity came in the last season of Ranji Trophy when he led Karnataka in the tournament in absence of R Vinay Kumar. He had a dream start, as he kicked off his captaincy career with a win over Gautam Gambhir-led Delhi.

The next opportunity came when he was appointed as the skipper of Delhi Daredevils, in the absence of Zaheer Khan in this year’s IPL.

The sixth edition of KPL will starts from September 1 with the first match to be played between Hubli Tigers and Belagavi Panthers. The Mysuru Warriors will play their first game against Bengaluru Blaster on September 2.
