Sunil Joshi, Venkatapathy Raju leading Race to Become Bangladesh's Next Spin Bowling Consultant 1

A few months back when Bangladesh landed in India to play a Test match, there were reports that Anil Kumble, the then Head Coach of Indian cricket team, has recommended the name of his former statemate Sunil Joshi as the spin bowling consultant of Bangladesh cricket team.

After six months, when Stuart MacGill has denied the role of short-term spin bowling coach role, again, Bangladesh are looking towards Joshi. It has been reported that Joshi and Venkatapathy Raju are in the fray to become the Bangladesh’s spin bowling consultant.

MacGill was expected to join the squad before the series against Australia, but he denied to take up the role in the eleventh hour, which has forced BCB to make hurry call and find a new spin coach.

In 2016, the Sri Lankan spinners toppled Australia’s batting line-up and sealed a win by a margin of 3-0, riding on their spin show. Earlier this year as well, turn played a crucial part and India clinched the Test series by a margin of 2-1 against Australia, coming back from the defeat in the first Test at Pune.

In short, spin is the key to success in Asian conditions, and Bangladesh is also looking to cash on the same factor. They have the likes of Mehedi Hasan on their side, who played a pivotal role in the last home series against England.

Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) will soon announce their new spin bowling consultant, with Joshi as the front-runner, because that it is the second time when he is contacted for the role.
