Saina Nehwal regains her number 1 spot in the latest BWF rankings released on Thursday. She lost her number 1 ranking to Li Xuerui after losing to Chinese in the semi finals of Malaysian Open Super Series. The Chinese Li Xuerui has dropped to number three in the rankings.
The top ace Indian shuttler has been in great form in 2015 winning the Indian Open Grand Prix Gold, reaching the finals of All England badminton Championship, but losing to Carliona Marin, winning the Indian Open Super Series held in New Delhi.
Saina Nehwal had skipped the Singapore Open Super Series but gained in the rankings after Li Xuereui pulled out of the tournament leading to loss of two positions in the women’s singles chart. Saina Nehwal has a big challenge ahead of her which is the Asian Badminton Championship which is going to be held from the 21st April to 25th April where top players from China, Korea, Japan will participate in the prestigious tournament. PV Sindhu has dropped to number 12th in the rankings from number 10.
While in men’s rankings Srikanth retains his 4th spot while P Kashyap rose to number 14th after finishing the semi finalist in the Singapore Open Super Series this month.
Saina Nehwal becoming number 1 in the rankings is great news for Indian sports and now is the challenge to keep her number 1 spot with her in Asian Badminton Championship coming up in few days.
