In the yesterday’s encounter between Royal Challengers Bangalore and Mumbai Indians, played at Chinnaswamy stadium at Bangalore, the Mumbai Indians team set a target of 210 for the challengers to win. At a stadium where even higher scores have been scored and the type of batting line up the home team was carrying, RCB fans did fancy their chances of chasing the total against a team that was yet to win their first match in this season of IPL.
But the player who was most expected to lead chase, Chris Gayle wasn’t quiet at his best and other big names like Virat and de Villiers could help neither. AB de Villiers did manage to give a small shock to the MI fans in his innings of 43 runs in just 11 deliveries but that contribution was way too less when chasing a score like 210. In the end RCB lost the match and MI won their first one of the tournament.
However many people thought that the target set by MI was among the highest team scores in IPL. Here, we bring to you the list of Top 10 highest team scores in IPL history –

As you might see, there is no mention of the yesterday’s team score in the Top 10 list, to your surprise that score 209 wouldn’t have made it even to the Top 20 list as it was 23rd highest team score in the history of IPL.
On the 1st position, we have RCB with a score of 263 in 20 over’s against the Pune Warriors India team, this was the same match where Gayle score 175* and as a result this was the first ever instance of a team crossing 250 runs in T20 cricket.
Second position is held by the CSK team for scoring 246/5 against RR, where Murali Vijay made a contribution of 127 runs. This match is considered to be one of the best chases as RR got close to winning this match but in the end were stopped at 223/5, losing the match by 23 runs but surely won many hearts.
On 3rd position we against have CSK again for their score of 240/5 against the Kings XI Punjab team in the first season. This was just second match of the first IPL season and thanks to Michael Hussey, who scored 116, CSK manage to set the tone for the whole IPL and build a fan base all over the world.
The highest successful chase in IPL has been of 217 runs by RR when DC set a target 215 for the Royals to win in 2008 on 24 April. The record was set 7 years back and is yet to be broken.
Do you think there will any other team that will chase down a score more than 215? If yes, who do you think it will be and against whom?
