Gautam Gambhir has never backed down from sharing his views on any change in the Indian cricket team. This time it’s the omission of Yuvraj Singh from the limited-overs side traveling to Sri Lanka which has got Gambhir’s attention. The MSK Prasad-led selection commission dropped Yuvraj from the team but later on commented that he was rested and not dropped.

According to an earlier report, it was to be believed that Singh was dropped from the team as he failed to clear the ‘Yo-Yo’ endurance test which is conducted to assess the fitness of a player. But MSK Prasad later on clarified that Yuvraj’s failure to clear the test was not the reason for him to miss out from the team. Gambhir believes that ‘rest’ wasn’t the right word used in this case.
Gambhir believes that Yuvraj was dropped and not rested because he has hardly played any cricket for a while and giving him rest was not the right excuse by the selection commission for leaving Yuvraj out of the team. Gambhir, who is a big fan of Yuvraj’s style of play, thinks that it would be really hard for him to make a comeback in the team but hopes he does make a comeback and play for India in the 2019 world cup. Gambhir said,
“I don’t think ‘rest’ is the right word because he (Yuvraj) hasn’t played any cricket for quite a while and he would want to play. If you want to see him at the World Cup, he should be given the maximum opportunity. Because, someone like Yuvraj, you want him in that flow, you want him in that rhythm. You can’t have someone like him playing in one series and resting thereafter.” He added, “So, I feel that it’s difficult now for Yuvraj to make a comeback. Hopefully, he does because he is one of the greats of the game.”
Yuvraj, on the other hand, will be hopeful of making a comeback to the squad and maintain his position in the team as it his dream to play in the 2019 cricket world cup.
