In the latest shocking news which has come out of DDCA, it has been learned that the state board rejected the plea of Sarandeep Singh to become the selector of Delhi Ranji team. The former Indian off-spinner applied for the job of the selector and offered his services free of cost but the Cricket Affairs Committee did not interview him on the grounds of Lodha recommendations.
As per the recommendations, a person cannot hold two positions at a time and if Sarandeep would have become the selector, then it would have been a violation of rules. Though it is to be noted that MSK Prasad – Chairman of selectors – and Devang Gandhi – a member of the selection committee- are the Chairman of their respective state cricket team. This was one of the reasons why Sarandeep applied for the job. It is the second running time when he applied for it but couldn’t emerge out as the winner in the end.
“Yes, Sarandeep’s plea has been rejected. If he were to become Delhi selector, he would have had to leave his national selector’s job as Lodha Panel Reforms does not allow multiple post for a single person. Therefore, even if he wanted to do the assignment on a Pro Bono (free of cost) basis, it was not possible. At DDCA, we do not wish to deviate from the Lodha panel reforms. We can’t say why Bengal or Andhra is allowing Devang and Prasad to continue in their respective positions,” a DDCA official told PTI.
In the other news, it has been learned that one of the former coaches of Delhi will return in the role again. Vijay Dahiya, KP Bhaskar, and Manoj Prabhakar – all who have worked as Delhi’s coach in past- have emerged out as favorites to become the next coach of Delhi Ranji team for the upcoming season.
Before the start of the domestic calendar, one of the interesting things will be to see whether Gautam Gambhir will be given the captaincy in Ranji Trophy or the new selectors will look for something new, out of the box? The domestic season starts from October 6.
