Is Mahendra Singh Dhoni a correct choice in the Indian Limited overs set-up going forward? This has been a big question which has been surfacing of late.

It is still not known whether he will continue to don the national colors till the 2019 World Cup, but with the time left for the next World Cup, the management will be left scratching their head ahead of the mega event if Dhoni doesn’t perform on a consistent basis.

Rishabh Pant hasn’t been given enough chances to make himself a surety for the 2019 World Cup so if India does look for changes, they have to do it immediately otherwise Dhoni should be a direct choice for the event. In a video posted by ESPN Cricinfo, former Indian pacer Ajit Agarkar was asked a variety of questions and MS Dhoni and who should be his replacement for the 2019 World Cup if any.

When asked at which position he would like Dhoni to bat, Agarkar clearly said that Dhoni has himself said that he likes finishing of matches so with age the batting order can’t change.

He also emphasized on the fact that putting Manish Pandey ahead of Dhoni should be undue pressure on the youngster who still doesn’t have enough international experience under his belt.

The interviewer was of the opinion that the selectors were perhaps looking to play the best keeper in the team to which one of the people giving the answers contradicted by saying that going by wicket-keeping Wriddhiman Saha is the most technically sound keeper from a long time now. Meanwhile, Agarkar felt that the management is leaving it too late to decide on the future of Dhoni and after another 6 months there won’t be any other option and Dhoni will be the automatic choice for the 2019 World Cup.

Rishabh Pant has shown glimpses of what he can bring in as a batsman with some whirlwind knocks in the Indian Premier League but he hasn’t been tested yet in tough conditions and he might respond in the way he would like if he is directly thrown among the beats. So it still remains a question that is Dhoni the correct option for India going forward?
