The skipper of the Mumbai Indians, Rohit Sharma has said on Monday that having the influence of a two-time World Cup winning captain, Ricky Ponting as the coach of their team has helped him to learn a decent amount of leadership skills and qualities.
Rohit added that whenever he gets the opportunity to captain a side, that becomes a thorough learning process for him. Also, he said that he is working alongside the former great skipper, Ricky Ponting, who has led Australia to two World Cup triumphs in 2003 and 2007. Also, he is still regarded as the most successful international captain in ODIs.
But sadly, Mumbai Indians have failed to put up a consistent performance in this IPL. They have lost five of their first seven encounters. They have legends in the likes of Sachin Tendulkar, Jhonty Rhodes, Ricky Ponting and Anil kumble as part of the coaching staff. But still they failed to make an impact in this particular edition of the Indian Premier League.
Rohit is still hopeful for qualification into the playoffs. He said that winning just two matches out of seven is not what they expected. Rohit said that they have to accept that their performance has been poor. But nothing is over. He recalled that they lost their first five matches in IPL 2014 but bounced back strongly and went onto qualify for the playoffs.
He even rectified that this does not mean that they would lose their initial matches in years to come and would bounce back in the later phases. He said that they are still struggling to find out the perfect combination for the team.
He said that they do possess a quality squad with good variety of batting and bowling attack. All they need to do now is stay positive with their mindset and play as an unit.
