Sri Lanka were looking destined to suffer yet another humiliating defeat when India openers Rohit Sharma and Shikhar Dhawan added 109 runs for the first wicket while chasing 231. However, the game turned on its head when Akila Dananjaya dismissed Rohit for 54. 4 runs later, Milinda Siriwardana brought the hosts back into the game by dismissing Dhawan for 49.

India, on the other hand, tried to test other batsmen and sent KL Rahul and Kedar Jadhav at number 3 and 4. However, the move backfired as Jadhav was clean-bowled by Dananjaya for just 1 as India found itself reeling at 114 for 3 from 109 for 0. Dananjaya was not done yet and 4 runs later he dealt a huge blow to India’s hopes of chasing down the total comfortable by dismissing Virat Kohli with a brilliant delivery. The delivery from Dananjaya looked good for a drive and Kohli duly obliged. However, the ball spun back in just at the right moment and went on to sneak through the bat and pad to disturb the middle stump. A bewildered Kohli could not believe it as he first looked at his shattered stumps and then at his partner Rahul before walking off the ground.
