Sri Lanka’s limited-overs skipper Upul Tharanga has been handed a two match suspension for slow over rate during the 2nd ODI against India at the Palleke International Stadium.
It is also learned that Test captain Dinesh Chandimal and middle order left-handed batsman Lahiru Thirimane have been called up to the national side as cover.
The news came into the fray when Cricbuzz from their official twitter handle announced about this occurrence. Meanwhile, Tharanga has been going through an indifferent form and after a horrendous Test series, the southpaw has looked totally out of touch and have failed to play the long innings. Luck hasn’t been on his side and to worsen that he hasn’t played some of the best shots on the last few days.
Even yesterday it was Hardik Pandya who removed the Sri Lankan captain. His feet were planted to the crease and it took the outside edge to be safely pouched by the slip fielder. For yet another time it was a dominating performance by the Indian bowlers as they managed to keep the hosts to 236 after putting them in.
Lanky speedster Jaspirt Bumrah was exceptional and returned with 4 wickets while leggie Yuzvendra Chahal finished with a couple. Chasing a modest target, the Indian openers Rohit Sharma and Shikhar Dhawan got them off to a brilliant start. Both found the gaps on regular intervals and kept the scoreboard ticking especially in the powerplay overs. The duo shared a partnership of 109 runs but from there on it was a procession of sorts for the Indian batsmen.
Mystery spinner Akila Dananjaya wrecked havoc and removed 6 Indian batsmen as the visitors were reduced to 131/7 from 109/0. It was a topsy turvy tale as India staged yet another dramatic comeback and riding on brilliant unbeaten knocks by former captain MS Dhoni and Bhuvneshwar Kumar India won the 2nd ODI by 3 wickets and with 16 balls to spare.
