The upcoming weeks can have a tremendous influence on the future of R. Ashwin’s international career.
In a bid to polish his bowling skills and to prepare himself for the next round of overseas tours, the champion off-spinner has embarked on a tour of the UK, to take part in the ongoing county circuit. Ashwin is set to represent Worcestershire and will become the first Indian since Zaheer Khan, to represent the county.
In a recently uploaded story on his Instagram account, Ashwin showed a few glimpses of training in the facilities of the club.
This move is now seen as a fine move from someone as accomplished as Ashwin, who wants to completely prepare himself for the big Test series next year in England. The last time India toured England, Ashwin participated in just the final two Tests of the series, picking up a handful of wickets and scoring two scores in the 40’s.
With the Indian team currently taking on Sri Lanka in the ODI series, Ashwin is making sure that he adds another edge to his bowling, as his goal to excel in England as a spinner remains the primary task. Ashwin was recently backed by the club’s executive Steve Rhodes, who was delighted by having him on board.
“Ravi is a fantastic international cricketer who is currently in terrific form with his game,” said Steve Rhodes. “He is ranked in the top three as a bowler in Test cricket, is a wonderful all-rounder who can bat six and scores hundreds in Test cricket.
“It is a really important last few games in the Championship and to have someone of his class is a huge boost for the club,” Rhodes further added about the spinner.
