Sir Don Bradman was born on 27th August 1908 at Cootamundra, New South Wales, Australia. Bradman played 52 Tests for Australia, scoring 6,996. He is also known for his almost perfect 99.94 average in Test cricket. He missed the milestone by just four runs as he departed for zero in his final innings. Bradman scored 29 centuries in 80 innings making it one in every three innings. The second fastest player to reach the milestone of 29 centuries (Sachin Tendulkar) took 148 innings to do so.
Sachin Tendulkar met Sir Donald Bradman in 1998 on his birthday. Bradman invited Sachin and Shane Warne to his Kensington Park home in Adelaide on his 90th birthday. Sachin was honored when Bradman told him that he was today’s best batsmen. Bradman also said that he never saw himself playing, but if he saw himself when Sachin played.
Bradman never missed a chance to see Sachin play in his last five years. After a match when Sachin smashed 90 against Australia, Bradman asked his wife to keep an eye on the little master. Bradman also rated Sachin and Brian Lara amongst the greats of cricket.
Sachin himself has always been a big fan of Sir Donald Bradman. Bradman was so impressed by Sachin that he told the author of his novel Ronald Perry that Sachin would achieve great accomplishments and great numbers.
On behalf of all the cricket fraternity, we would like to wish Sir Donald Bradman a ‘Happy Birthday”.
