A moment of madness can change the course of the game and if this goes on to happen in the ongoing Test between Bangladesh and Australia in Mirpur, Soumya Sarkar is going to have some sleepless nights.
After the hosts took a crucial 43-run lead in the first innings, Tamim Iqbal and Sarkar gave them a steady start by adding 43 runs for the first wicket before the latter lost his composure and undid all the good work. Meanwhile, the dismissal became a bit interesting when Usman Khawaja took a juggling catch.
Left-arm spinner Ashton Agar bowled a looping delivery outside the off, tempting the Bangladesh opener to go for the shot and the latter duly obliged as he went for the big shot over long-on. However, the left-handed batsman mistimed the shot and skied it to Khawaja at long-on.
From there on, the drama began as what should have been a simple catch almost turned into a massive failure before the Khawaja regained his composure and completed the catch on the third attempt. As soon as the ball began coming towards him, Khawaja got ready to grab it with his reverse-cupped hands. However, the ball popped out of his hand on the first attempt and in the next attempt, the ball popped and rolled on his arms before further rolling down and hitting his knee, making his teammates skip a heartbeat. But just when the ball was looking to fall on the ground, Khawaja pouched it inches off the ground to give the visitors a much-needed break.
Here is a clip of that dramatic grab from Khawaja:
