Sri Lankan Cricket Board (SLC) has decided to inquire Chamara Kapugedera’s decisions to bat first in the third ODI against India. It is learned that in the team meeting, the players had decided to field first in case the home side won the toss but contrary to it, the stand-in skipper decided to bat first, which left everyone stunned. Sri Lanka had already lost first two ODIs batting first only and again, they batted first and lost the game.

Kapugedera acted as a stand-in skipper for Upul Tharanga in the third game, who has been banned for two ODIs due to slow over-rate. However, now Kapugedera too has been ruled out of the series due to a back injury and he has been replaced by Lasith Malinga as the skipper for the fourth ODI. Tharanga will take over the captaincy duties again in the fifth ODI.
In another news, the whole Sri Lankan selection panel has decided to step down from their post after the completion of the series against India. The Sanath Jayasuriya led panel announced their decision after strings of defeats in this year. Apart from defeat against Zimbabwe, the loss in the second Test against Bangladesh was another defeat which shook the Lankan team. A poor show in Champions Trophy followed and Zimbabwe loss was the last thing selectors could have asked for.

The fourth and the penultimate ODI of the series will be played on August 31. The Virat Kohli-led side will look to win the game and move a step closer to a whitewash over the hosts. A single T20I game after the completion of ODI series will mark an end to India tour of Sri Lanka.
