The Story

MS Dhoni mania has once again hit cricket fans. After a small slump, which saw the former skipper, play in an unimpressive fashion, Dhoni has found his groove once again.

There were constant debates about his growing age and finishing capabilities over the last few months. The debate gained more steam after Yuvraj Singh was axed from the ODI squad ahead of the ongoing series against Sri Lanka.

And, just when the doubts over Dhoni’s future were being strongly raised, chief of selectors, MSK Prasad, dropped statements which made MS Dhoni loyalists angry and upset.

He said: “You never know. We don’t say it is an automatic thing (selection) but we will see. We are all stakeholders. We all want the Indian team to do well. If he is delivering, why not? If he is not, we will have to look at alternatives,” Prasad had said.

“We have identified some set of players who will be considered for the next 4-5 months and we will rotate them. After those 4-5 months we will come to a picture that these are certain players who will go on to play the 2019 World Cup,” Prasad said after India completed a Test series whitewash.

These words were marked down as a point to prove by the MSD fans. And, when the charismatic right hander helped India win not one but two closely fought ODIs resulting in another series win, it was payback time and the fans were ready with trolls and sarcasm on social media.

Twitter mocks MSK

There is a difference between MSK and MSD, wrote one Twitter user. There were hundreds of similar tweets targeting MSK Prasad for his bold statement which was in the context of building the team for the 2019 Cricket World Cup.

In the 2nd ODI, Dhoni and Bhuvneshwar Kumar put on an unbeaten 100-run stand for the 8th wicket to take India home from a wobbly, or rather say a losing position.

Dhoni continued his run making form to hit another fifty plus scores and contribute in another unbeaten century partnership with Rohit Sharma. His efforts saw India register another 6-wicket win in the 3rd ODI. Dhoni entered the game in a difficult situation in both the matches but later survived until the end to help India finish on a high on both occasions.
