Team India discard speedster Ishant Sharma celebrated his birthday today, and the cricketing fraternity took to their twitter handle and wished him on his 29th birthday. The lanky pacer despite being part of The Test squad which toured Sri Lanka didn’t get a single game in the series which proves that the Indian team management is looking ahead for the future and some of the current pacers have outshone Ishant in all the departments of bowling.

Despite having a bundle of talent, Ishant hasn’t quite realized his potential at the international level. On occasions, he has left everyone spell bound with some sensational spells, but that has come few and far between. Among them is the spell to Ricky Ponting at Perth during his teenage days and the most recent being the spell against England where Ishant returned with magical figures of 7/74 to bowl India to a famous victory at the Mecca of Cricket the Lord’s.

The speedster hasn’t been part of the limited overs set up for a long time now. Even in the series against Australia which India eventually win by a 2-1 margin, he was the spearhead of the attack and ever since Zaheer Khan’s retirement he had taken up the role to mentor the young bowlers. It is strange that someone like Ishant hasn’t been a successful bowler. He has taken wickets at an average of over 37 which is pretty mediocre for a top class bowler.

Meanwhile, with his 29th birthday, he will also hope to have a change in fortunes. His biggest test will be to perform in South Africa if he gets a chance but otherwise, if the other bowlers are playing brilliantly then Ishant’s career might face a halt at the moment as far as international matches are concerned.
