Riding on Virat Kohli’s second consecutive century, India thrashed Sri Lanka by six wickets to win the series 5-0. The India skipper an unbeaten scored 110 to help India win the game with utmost ease in the end.
Chasing 239, the Men in Blue were in a spot of bother after being reduced to 29 for two with both of their openers Ajinkya Rahane and Rohit Sharma back in the hut.
Virat Kohli and Manish Pandey then batted India into a position of strength by adding 99 runs for the third wicket before the latter perished while going for a big shot. The wicket was assisting the spinners, but Kohli held firm from one end and scored a record-equalling century to take India home.
The century was Kohli’s 30th in ODIs, and he has now gone level with second-placed Ricky Ponting on the list of most ODI centuries. Kohli is now only behind Sachin Tendulkar who has scored a staggering 49 tons in the 50-over format. Meanwhile, Kohli was well supported by Kedar Jadhav, who was dropped in the last game due to poor form, and scored 63, as India chased down the total with more than three overs to spare to register its first whitewash in the Island nation.
Century Number 30 for @imVkohli, equals Ricky Ponting and now 19 away from @sachin_rt. #SLvIND #Dhoni100

Earlier, Sri Lanka once again failed to get going with the bat. After Niroshan Dickwella and Dilshan Munaweera were dismissed by Bhuvneshwar Kumar cheaply, captain Upul Tharanga tried to bring Sri Lanka in the game by adopting an aggressive approach, racing away to 48 off just 33 balls before Jasprit Bumrah ended his promising knock.
Lahiru Thirimanne and Angelo Mathews then struck half-centuries to steady the innings but failed to score quickly, as the Islanders were all out for 238.
Here is how Twitter reacted to the match:
Q. What's the only thing that Sri Lanka has won on this tour?

While 49 is still the Mt Everest, considering @imVkohli's age, zest, fitness he does hv a very realistic chance of cracking Sachin's record

He makes it seem as if creating a record is just like recording a tape. Equals Ponting's 30. Only one man above him.#ViratKohli
