Gautam Gambhir Pledges To Bear Lifetime Education Expenses Of Martyred Police Officer's Daughter 1

Showing his humanitarian side, once again, Indian batting star Gautam Gambhir has pledged to bear the full expenses of the child of the assistant sub-inspector (ASI) of police Abdul Rashid who was killed in south Kashmir’s Anantnag district, after militants fired at him, last week. According to media reports, Rashid received bullet injury in his abdomen and rushed to a district hospital where he eventually succumbed to injuries.

Expressing his grief over the unfortunate incident, Gambhir tweeted:“Zohra,I can’t put u 2 sleep wid a lullaby but I’ll help u 2 wake up 2 live ur dreams. Will support ur education 4 lifetime “

He further paid his tribute to the martyred police and wrote:“Zohra, plz don’t let those tears fall as i doubt even Mother Earth can take d weight of ur pain. Salutes to ur martyred dad ASI,Abdul Rashid.”

One should remember that during this year’s Indian Premier League too; he had pledged to bear the full expenses of the children of 25 CRPF personnel killed by Maoists in Chhattisgarh.

“On Wednesday morning, I picked up newspapers and saw gut-wrenching pictures of the daughters of two CRPF men killed in the latest attacks. One was saluting her martyred father while in the other picture, the howling young woman was being consoled by her relative,” he had written in his column for Hindustan Times at that time.

Gambhir does the charities through his foundation, Gautam Gambhir Foundation which recently opened a community kitchen in Delhi.

Meanwhile, Gambhir’s international career is looking as good as over at the time being. After failing to make the chances count when he was recalled to the Test team last year, the World Cup-winning star has not managed to get a recall from the national team. So far, Gambhir has represented India in 58 Tests, and 147 ODIs, scoring over 9000 runs with the help of 20 centuries and 56 half-centuries. He has also played 37 T20Is and has scored 932 runs including seven fifties.
