Staggering – this – is probably the only adjective to describe India’s tour of Sri Lanka. Decimating Sri Lanka in their backyard, the Virat Kohli led Indian outfit created history at Colombo, as the men in blue became the first team ever to whitewash a team in all forms of the game, away from home. 9-0, the tour score across Tests, ODI’s and the one off T20I, is simple enough to portray how ineffective the Sri Lankans were.
The game though was a usual scenario for Kohli as he ended up mastering yet another run chase. Scoring his fourth consecutive half century against Sri Lanka, the Indian captain’s classy 82 helped India scale down a target of 171 with utmost ease.
For a change though, Sri Lanka batted well initially and ended with more than a defendable total, thanks to an excellent finish. But that wasn’t to be, as half centuries from Kohli and Manish Pandey made the chase look like an absolute cakewalk.
Kohli at the post match presentation termed the tour result as “special”.
“Very special, hasn’t been done before. Credit to all the hard work the boys have put in. Evidence of the fact how hungry the players are in Indian cricket. Very, very happy as a captain,” said Kohli.
“I look to back my strengths in T20 cricket. It’s something I’ve practiced very hard to mould my game to all formats. When you’re two-down chasing 171, we knew it won’t be easy. Manish was outstanding as well today,” said a delighted Virat Kohli, who was also the Man of the Match for his elegant knock.
