Continuing his dream run in 2017, Nathan Lyon bowled a decisive spell on the fourth day against Bangladesh, to have the hosts reeling at Chittagong. Carrying on his exploits from the first innings, where he picked up a seven wicket haul, Lyon was at it again as he spelled doom and misery for the hosts on an absolute rank turner.
Lyon ended the innings picking up six wickets, to make it 13 in the match. Given his tally of 9 wickets in the first Test, the off spinner scripted a few records on his way, as he broke a 115-year-old of having the most number of wickets in a two match Test series.
The more significant record in the scheme of things for Lyon though, was in the fact that with his six wicket haul in the second innings, he became the leading Test wicket taker for 2017, going past the Indian spin twins of Ravindra Jadeja and R. Ashwin.
While Jadeja and Ashwin have 44 wickets each this year, Lyon now has 45 wickets at an average of just 22.35. Not to forget, Lyon was utterly lethal during the side’s tour of India earlier this year, and he is well on his way of stamping his authority as an all time great.
Coming to the game, Bangladesh set Australia a target of 86 in the fourth innings, and if the Australians get there, the series will be drawn at 1-1.
