A Couple of Soft Dismissals Cost Us The Game: Mushfiqur Rahim 1

Bangladesh captain Mushfiqur Rahim revealed that their poor first innings batting had cost them the game as Australia inflicted a seven wicket defeat in the second test at Chittagong.

After winning the toss and opting to bat first, Bangladesh had only managed to score 305 in their first innings as they succumbed to Lyon’s off spin.

“Credit goes to the Australians, we know that they are a strong side and we knew that they would come back hard.

“The wicket in the first innings was pretty good and a couple of soft dismissals cost us out there. We had to score around 350-400 in the first innings and that cost us the game. There are plenty of areas for improvement whether we win or lose,” he said.

However, he believes the conditions will be different when they visit South Africa next.

“When we go to South Africa the conditions would be very different and we’d need to adjust, come up with new plans and execute well.”

Rahim also praised Lyon for his splendid bowling as the off spinner managed an unbelievable 13 wickets in the test match.

“I thought Lyon bowled brilliantly, got bounce from the rough and did not give us free balls. The other bowlers also kept things very tight. If the situation comes up again, we would look to adjust and learn from this.”

The 29-year old has led Bangladesh to the win in the first test and can take plenty of positives from the series. He also hoped that the team would perform well against South Africa in South Africa.

“It is a team game and a couple of guys put their hands up. Sadly a couple of them did not do it in this game. It can happen in Tests. Shakib and Tamim are positive signs, Mustafizur bowled superbly in the first innings and hopefully we would go well in South Africa”, he concluded.
