Former Australian Cricketer Dean Jones has criticized Virat Kohli after he left the dressing room to meet his fiancée Anushka Sharma during Royal Challengers Bangalore’s (RCB) clash against Delhi Daredevils (DD) at M.Chinnaswamy Stadium on May 17. It has been reported that Kohli might have breached the IPL’s anti-corruption guidelines after this act.

Jones said:

“He can’t be at his whims and fancies because he wants to see his girl-friend.”

DD scored 187 runs in the first innings before rain delayed RCB’s chase. Kohli then visited Anushka and Yuvraj Singh, Dinesh Karthik also frequently visited the RCB skipper in the VIP Box. After witnessing this, Jones said that at a time when cricket is fighting the menace of match-fixing, Kohli, Yuvraj should have remained in the dressing room and focused on the match itself.

“The biggest cancer hitting cricket is illegal gambling. We try to stop communication between players and they are well aware of this. Virat made a mistake stepping out of the dressing room,” he said.

“All that Virat had to do was say ‘Sorry darling, I want to see you but there is a rain delay and I have to stay within the confines of the dressing room. How many times do we have to educate the players that they have to protect the integrity of the game, that is your role. Players are the trustees of the game,” he concluded.
