The Story
Overreaction to an on-field scenario has now got South Africa spinner Tabraiz Shamsi in a disciplinary problem with the match referees.
The Chinaman, who plays for the St. Kitts & Nevis Patriots, snapped 2/20 in the low scoring finals against Trinbago Knight Riders in the finals of the Caribbean Premier League 2017. His efforts played a role in leaving Knight Riders reeling at 85 for six during the chase of 136 before a slip up by Ben Hilfenhaus, who bowled the penultimate over during the defense, led to an unlikely victory for the Knight Riders.
The fun loving Shamsi bowled a terrific spell. But, the heat of the moment created by the closely fought contest, however, trapped him into committing a disciplinary gaffe. It was highly unexpected from him, and this surprisingly strange burst out has now put in the bad light among match officials.
Fined for Angry Gesture
Tabraiz Shamsi has been fined 50 percent of his match fee for showing ‘serious dissent’ during the final of the Caribbean Premier League 2017 on Saturday (September 9). An official release from the CPL said that the bowler admitted to a Level 2 breach of the code of conduct of the tournament.
In the 13th over, one of his straighter delivery hit Javon Searles on the pads, and an LBW looked like a possibility. An optimistic Shamsi went for an appeal fully charged appeal but was turned down by the umpire.
Shamsi’s charged appeal, however, did not stop after the decision was made and it grew into a frustration which resulted in him making a bizarre protest.
He, later on, went on to dismiss Searles in the next over but eventually, the Knight Riders had the last laugh.
