Riding on his brilliant show for India A against Bangladesh A, Gurkeerat Singh Mann first got selected in the Indian Test team for the second Test against South Africa in 2015, and following that, he also made it to the ODI team as well. However, he did not get a chance but flew to Australia with the ODI side, and it was finally there when he played for India but was dropped after he failed to impress.

This time though, Gurkeerat is not a member of the Indian team and would be leading a BCCI President XI squad, which includes likes of players who did well in IPL and limited overs domestic cricket last season.

Captaincy wouldn’t have come to him had the game would not have clashed with Duleep Trophy but now, it is an opportunity for him to make a place in Duleep Trophy,

“I am really excited especially because I made my debut against Australia. So I have got an opportunity to play against them again. Looking forward to the chance,” Mann said on the eve of the practice game.

“I think there is every possibility about that. But it’s just that wherever you get selected you need to perform at your best. All of us are looking at this game and focusing on this game and performing better. Rest is with the selectors’ hands. We will have to perform wherever we get selected be it Duleep or this game. There wasn’t any message as of now,” he added.

The message is clear to every player in the side, the one who will perform will get a ticket to Duleep Trophy because 14 players are set to leave the ongoing tournament mid-way due to India A’s commitments, and selectors would need players so as to fill the vacant places. The players of BCCI XI team would be the obvious choice, but for that, they have to do well to impress selectors.
